Summer - One of Many Gardens
Summer - One of Many Gardens
Oil on Clayboard
30 x 40

A phrase, "Einer Hof" spoken, later
printed on a book.
Inside the home of an ancient pair
the boundary between their
walls and garden indeterminate.

A dream
inside another dream
and we all knew we were dreaming twice.

"Oh, pay attention," said the old man.

We've taken all we can take.
The sun's heat has drawn up
all that would meet it.

The fruit is abundant.
From inside, the seed falls out.
The eternal seed: still hiding
next year's forest.

Did I bring it forth?
Only helped it
I couldn't help it.
